Eastern Connecticut Ballet Company

Serious students may audition to become a member of Eastern Connecticut Ballet’s
well-known and highly respected Junior and Senior Companies. Throughout the year company members perform original and traditional works staged by master choreographers who have come to ECB from American Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hartford Ballet, Nashville Ballet, The Martha Graham Dance Company and Alvin Ailey American Repertory Theatre, among others.

Choreographers work to expose dancers to both classical and contemporary repertory designed to create well-rounded, balanced artists. Professional guests artists from New York and Boston work alongside young dancers in these ballets. For the last three years, company members have had the opportunity to work with the Adam Miller Dance Project, a new, contemporary dance company based in Hartford, Connecticut. Students make contacts and learn skills that can ease their transition into dance careers and college dance programs. Past artists have included:

• Donald Acevedo, National Ballet of Canada, Cavanough & Dancers
• James Graber, American Repertory Ballet, Hartford Ballet
• Arch Higgins, New York City Ballet
• Jeanette Hanley, Hartford Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Milwaukee Ballet
• Hagop Kharatian, Hartford Ballet, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Milwaukee Ballet
• Natalie Koons, Hartford Ballet, American Repertory Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet
• Cheryl Madeux, American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet
• Timothy Melady, Hartford Ballet, Miami City Ballet
• Momchil Mladenov, Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Bulgarian National Ballet
• Carlos Molina, American Ballet Theatre
• Bonnie Pickard, Suzanne Farrell Ballet, North Carolina Dance Theatre
• Boris Serebryakov, Hartford Ballet, Washington Ballet
• Laura Urgelles, Hartford Ballet, Washington Ballet

ECB Company members have had the privilege of working in collaboration
with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, Eastern Connecticut
Symphony Youth Orchestra, The US Coast Guard Band, the Connecticut
State Music Teachers Association, Lyme Art Association, Florence
Griswold Museum, Old Lyme Library, East Lyme Arts Festival, and the
Philippine and Chinese Cultural Associations. Many performances are held
at the Garde Arts Center, but others are held at theaters throughout the
region in order to be accessible to a broader community. As a result of
the commitment and discipline needed to prepare live performances and
balance company training requirements with challenging academic loads,
dancers develop into conscientious, hard-working adults who can contribute
to society in a meaningful way.
